Haliburton Sunset Impressions 2
Haliburton Sunset Impressions 2

For the past 12 years, Susan has committed herself to honing her artistic skills. Her works, mainly in acrylics have been shown in numerous community shows in the Huron County area. Susan's landscapes are painted on highly texturized, large scale canvases. Her paintings are based on photos she has taken from the bow of her canoe as she and her husband enjoy the scenic beauty of Haliburton where the couple own a cottage or while riding her bicycle around the back roads of Huron County, where they reside. While she uses bright, bold colours, the overall impact of her landscapes is peaceful and draws the viewer into the scene.

Susan's work has recently found its way into the Haliburton art scene. A show of her work at the Rails End Gallery in the town of Haliburton during the month of June, 2010, a presence in the Ethel Curry Gallery of Haliburton, a show of Plein Air work in Wilberforce, and a show during the month of September in the Heritage House Cafe have placed Susan in the midst of a vibrant artistic community. Susan continues to display her work at the Clinton Health Centre, the Clinton Public Hospital, Wilson's Office Solutions and G. Hiltz Law Office all in Clinton, Ontario. Her paintings have been shown in the Annual Blyth Community Art Show, the Huron County Museum Annual Art Exhibit and the Paint Ontario Show at the Lambton County Museum near Grand Bend for many years.

Susan is a member of the Blyth Art Committee, the Rails End Gallery and the Haliburton Highlands Art Council. Susan is also a member of online visual art galleries including the Saatchi Gallery.

Commissions welcome.

Artist Statement

I am most inspired by the tranquil, natural wilderness found along Ontario’s shorelines and by rural scenery. My specialty is water and I love to make it look wet. In my Haliburton Shoreline series, my goal is to make the viewer feel as if he is gliding by in a canoe.

My paintings are large scale acrylic works on canvas first texturized with molding paste, underpainted with an appropriate colour and painted in an impressionistic style. The textured surface lends an edgy, rugged and slightly abstract aspect to the painted scene, giving my paintings a unique appeal.

I love to make my landscapes sing and sparkle with vitality by amplifying the effects of light and shadow through the use of strong colour and value.
